Name
Dementia and hospice: what you need to know to avoid penalties and give better guidance
Marcia Levetown, MD, MMM, HMDC, FAAHPM
Description
Although dementia is an increasingly common and costly condition among hospice patients, it remains one of the least understood. When hospice teams are not well informed, they cannot provide effective advice and care to patients and families. Additionally, errors in prognostication and documentation expose hospices to penalties related to CMS claims of ineligibility or excessive lengths of stay. This session will provide a research-based overview of the forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.
